UDC worked with students of Architecture from the AMS College of Architecture in Chennai to conduct an urban mapping exercise.
As a primer to the process of reading the city, the students were introduced to the use of various tools to document the physical and social fabric of urban areas, which they then applied to two neighbourhoods in the city – Velachery and Perambur.
In two groups of ten, the students undertook documentation on these sites over the course of ten days. This was followed by a review and quick design charrette, to analyze the data collected and respond to the observations from the sites by producing conceptual design ideas for these neighborhoods.
