With COVID crippling transport and shutting down centralised wholesale produce distribution units across cities, UDC undertook a study to understand how two cities – Chennai and Tirunelveli ensured the delivery of produce from farms to our plates.
In this study we compared the supply chain of produce before and during the pandemic highlighting innovative local approaches adopted by both the cities to address disruptions in the supply chain. The study ended with key learnings and highlighting opportunities for tackling similar crises in the future.
As a fun bonus we calculated how much each of our ingredients travel across the country to help us make ‘vengayam sambar’!
