CITIIS

CITIIS is the main component of the ‘Supporting Smart Cities Mission for a more Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Development in India’ launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in 2018. The program aims at putting in place a complementary instrument to the Smart Cities Mission that provides a financing incentive and technical support to demonstrative projects selected in a competitive process. The selected projects will improve sustainable mobility, increase the amount of public open spaces, implement technology to improve e-governance and drive social and organizational innovation in low income settlements. The core values of CITIIS project include relevance and feasibility, Innovation, Integration and adopting participatory approaches.

Urban Design Collective (UDC) with its team of passionate urbanists and with expertise in participatory approach based solutions, is one of the domestic experts in the program and designated project mentor for two (out of 12) selected smart city projects namely: Howrah river front development in Agartala and Green Mobility corridor in Hubbali-Dharwad. The projects are currently in the third phase of the maturation where in feasibility study of the proposed structure, environment and social impact assessment, detailed study of various stakeholders and planning for communication tools for participatory approach is being undertaken. UDC provides consistent guidance and assistance to these two cities to ensure a well-structured implementation of the projects with a user centric approach. UDC also provides handbooks, workbooks, guidelines, toolkits etc. for successful completion and systematic documentation of every phase.
