Kuppai Matters

Kuppai Matters is a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at a zero-waste future for Chennai. The initiative focused on raising awareness and sensitising citizens about the need for responsible solid-waste management.

UDC was part of organising Kuppai Thiruvizhas in Chennai that built capacity towards zero-waste living. The festivals were designed to teach people how to reduce their everyday waste through contextualising the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) and providing ways for people to responsibly dispose of waste.

UDC designed ‘ways to reduce waste’ posters and collateral that were available at the festivals and were circulated through social media as part of the capacity building process. UDC also conducted participatory mapping workshops at these festivals, where we engaged with local communities and crowd-sourced potential sites for community recycling and composting centres.
